Marathon Trip Recap: Part 1

Arriving to Disney and Some Expo Fun

My mom and I flew down to Orlando on the Thursday before the Disney Marathon. My car had been sitting in the airport parking garage for about a week packed to the brim with all of my DCP things, so I was a little nervous something might have happened to it. Fortunately, everything was still there! The backseat was so full we had a slight problem fitting the suitcase into it, but it worked.

Expo Fun

One perk of going to the expo while it’s raining is no lines!

As soon as we arrived on Disney property, we headed straight to the ESPN Wide World of Sports to pick up our race bibs and check out the expo. We spent all afternoon browsing through the different booths and found some really cute, sequined skirts to wear during the race and some other things that we absolutely needed purchased.

We had dinner at the Contempo Cafe and split a delicious turkey sandwich after we got upgraded to a 10th floor room with a perfect view of Cinderella Castle! We had a bit of a problem with our first floor room (the outside patio door wouldn’t lock and a few other things), so that was the room the friendly Cast Member was able to switch us to. (Thanks again!)

Friday, A Day Full of Characters

All-you-can-eat minus the buffet germs!

On Friday, we started out our day with a character breakfast at ‘Ohana and met Stitch, Lilo, Pluto and Mickey Mouse. ‘Ohana’s food is delicious, especially the eggs and Mickey waffles. Then, we headed to Magic Kingdom, since we set up our FastPass+ for there. We had fun playing in the Kingdom!

Wishing Well

We wished to finish the marathon in one piece!

There is a new running store at Downtown Disney, so we had to go there to check it out and to get a delicious sandwich from Earl of Sandwich for dinner. Yum!

After we got back to Bay Lake Tower, my friend Emily joined us to spend the weekend with us. We watched the fireworks from the balcony in our room and then went up to the Top of the World Lounge to sit and chat! Lori, one of my beloved roommates from the DCP, came to see us after her shift at Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. I was so happy I got to see her! 🙂 She’ll be in Disney until May, so I am hopeful I’ll be able to make another trip down before then.

Room, Fireworks

Always end the night with fireworks.

Welcome Back, Time Traveler!

On Saturday, we obviously had to go to Animal Kingdom! I miss everyone from Dinosaur, so I had to go visit them. It was great seeing some of the people I worked with for five months! I wish I could still be there with everyone, but at the same time, I am ready to move on to the next chapter of my life.

Aladar, my favorite iguanodon

Aladar, my favorite iguanodon!

That night, we went to Epcot to eat at Tutto Italia, and Jenna, another DCP roommate, met up with us for dinner! Tutto Italia was delicious and the perfect pre-race meal. My mom, Emily and I had the spaghetti with meatballs, and Jenna had the lasagna. We were all impressed! I definitely tried to do a little carbo loading, since I wasn’t sure if my less-than-stellar training plan would pull through for me. Whatever works, right?

That feeling when you're reunited with best friends!

As soon as we got back to Bay Lake Tower, I tried to go to sleep because we had to wake up at 3:00 to head over to the race. Yes, 3:00 in the morning. Runners are a crazy breed!

More to come!
